Diocesan News #

Bishop Wimberly has announced the appointment of The Rev. Dr. Ann Normand, Rector of Trinity Marble Falls, to the position of Canon to the Ordinary for the Diocese of Texas!   She will be filling the position opened by the election of the current Canon, C. Andrew Doyle, who is now the Bishop Coadjutor-elect.

The Rev. Dr. Normand has served as Trinity Mable Fall's rector for ten years, overseeing its tremendous spiritual and numerical growth.

Her duties as canon will include administration, legal matters and coordination of the diocesan ministry staff.  She will also act as the diocesan deployment officer, working with congregations during transitions in leadership.  As canon, she will assist in placing curates, deacons and bivocational priests; oversee discipline of clergy; and work with both the Standing Committee and Executive Board.  The diocese is greatly blessed to have a person of her tremendous capability in this position.

Andy Doyle Elected Bishop Coadjutor #

The Rev. Canon C. Andrew Doyle, Canon to the Ordinary of the Diocese of Texas, was elected bishop coadjutor on Saturday, May 24, at a special session of the Diocese's 159th Council.  At 41, he will be the second youngest bishop in the Episcopal Church.

"I have a solid working relationship with Bishop Wimberly. He has mentored me and I look forward to a continuation of our shared ministry in this new light," Doyle said.  A self-described moderate, Doyle said, "Our work is to grab the vision God has for us and take that word to others. With Jesus Christ, we are about reconciliation and renewed relationships."

Good News for Early Birds! #

On Sunday, June 1, Holy Comforter Angleton adds an early worship service to our Sunday schedule!   The new 8:30 a.m. service will be a simpler, more intimate worship service than the 10:30 service.  This "Rite 3" service will incorporate worship forms from Enriching Our Worship, a supplement to the Book of Common Prayer.  Nursery will be available from 8:15 a.m. Now you have a choice on Sunday morning: 8:30 or 10:30....or both!

Pentecost! #

Suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind....all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit!  Acts 2:2&4

Celebrate Pentecost on Sunday, May 11 at Holy Comforter!  Our special guest, Kathy Culmer, storyteller extraordinaire, will bring the Pentecost story to life for us at the 10:30 worship service.  After worship we'll share a Pentecost Potluck as we each bring a dish representing our own (or another) ethnic origin.  Wear your Holy Spirit red and celebrate God's gift to all the nations!

Who is Our Neighbor? #

Holy Comforter Angleton's new neighbors are the children of the West Texas polygamist compound.   Twenty five of these children and ten mothers have been received by Kidz Harbor, a foster care facility near Liverpool, Texas, only 15 miles from Angleton. Kidz Harbor is in need of immediate donations to help with the assimiliation of these children.  Donations may be brought to Holy Comforter; Outreach Coordinator Dianne Kilgus will deliver them to Liverpool.

Items needed are:  Money (the greatest need), baby care items, such as diapers and wipes, and personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc.  Additionally, these children--our neighbors--need our prayers. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  Matthew 22:39

Legacy of Leadership Class #

The Diocese of Texas will soon be electing a Bishop Coadjutor (that's Episco-speak for Bishop-elect)!   Holy Comforter wants to be in the know, so during  Adult Christian Ed at 9:30 on Sundays, April 14, 21, 27, & May 4, we'll use the curriculum Legacy of Leadership to take a look at the election process.  We'll study what the Bible says about leadership and learn about the role of Diocesan Bishop.  If you want to better understand our polity and process, this is the class for you!  Click on the link to the Diocese of Texas www.epicenter.org for more information about nominees and the election process.
