Busy Saturday! #

Saturday, July 11 is VBS!  Vacation Bible Saturday is from 9:30 a.m.- Noon for ages 3 - 5th grade. After that, run by St. John Lutheran Church for a car wash and a hamburger or hot dog lunch!  The LutheranPalooza runs all day Saturday and is raising funds for Ashley Weatherly's motorized wheelchair and a van to carry it.   Let's support our friends at St. John as they work toward this very worthy goal!

Bishop & BBQ! #

Holy Comforter welcomes the Rt. Rev. Dena Harrison, Suffragan Bishop of Texas, on Sunday, June 28 at 10:30 for a service of baptism, confirmation, and reception.  It will be a wonderful service with glorious music!   Immediately following the service we'll celebrate with the best BBQ in Texas cooked by the men of Holy Comforter, the best BBQ-ers around...yee-ha!  Bring a side dish or a dessert and join us!

You're Invited.... #

....for Java with John, to welcome our new Interim Music Director, John Gearhart!   Beginning Sunday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m, and continuing each Sunday through the summer, you're invited to share a cup of java with John in the parish hall before moving to the nave to practice the day's hymns before worship!

VBS! #

This year VBS takes on a new look--its Vacation Bible SATURDAYS!   On June 6 & 20; July 11 & 25; Aug 8, from 9:30- noon, Holy Comforter Kids will stomp through the swamp and rock the dock!  Each Saturday will be a fun filled morning of Bible stories, games, crafts, music, & snacks!  Invite all your young friends, ages 3-12 to join in the fun. See you at the swamp!

May 31, Pentecost Sunday #

Suddenly there came a sound like a violent wind...all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking other languages. Acts 2:2

Join us as we celebrate Pentecost with joyful worship, The Spirit of Hope a drama written by Lisa Fitzpatrick, and a noon Pentecost Potluck!  Bring an ethnic dish to celebrate the gift of God's Holy Spirit to all people and be sure to wear red, the color of Pentecost!   We will also celebrate "Sherry White Appreciation Day" as she observes her last Sunday as music director after 17 years of faithful service.  It will be a glorious day!

Two Terrific Teachers! #

Two Holy Comforter parishioners received awards at the recent Angleton ISD Employee Awards Banquet!  Connie Hattaway is AISD's Elementary Teacher of the Year; her daughter, Jennifer Hanson is AISD's Rookie of the Year! Congratulations to Connie and Jennifer!  We are proud of you!

Graduation is in the air! #

May is upon us and with it comes graduation.  We will recognize our graduating high school seniors on Sunday, May 17 with a special blessing during the 10:30 service, followed by a reception in their honor.  Graduating seniors are: Matthew Boswell, Elizabeth Peltier, and Ray Eby.  Also graduating in May are Kyle Stawarczik, from Stephen F. Austin State University, and Andrew Gertz, from UH Law Center.  Congratulations to all!

Baptismal Blessing! #

Easter Sunday #

Holy Comforter's Vestry hosts an Easter Breakfast at 9:00 a.m., followed by one worship service at 10:30 at which we will joyfully celebrate the Lord's Resurrection!  Following the Rite II service of Baptism, the children will enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt!

Holy Week Worship #

Palm Sunday is April 5.  Join us for the Liturgy of the Palms and guest preacher, The Rev. Dr. Mark Crawford, at both services, 8:30 and 10:30.

Maundy Thursday is April 9.  A service of Foot Washing and Holy Eucharist at 7 p.m.precedes the Stripping of the Altar. A Prayer Vigil follows until 10 p.m.

Good Friday is remembered with a Solemn Service at 7 p.m., followed by the Stations of the Cross.

Easter Sunday 10:30 a.m. welcomes a single service of rejoicing in the Lord's resurrection!   The service of Holy Eucharist is preceded by a breakfast at 9 a.m. and followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for the kiddos!

Keep Angleton Beautiful.... #

has recognized Holy Comforter as their "Beautiful Business of the Month!"  We couldn't agree more.  Our snowy white azaleas are in full bloom; brightly colored annuals dot the flower beds; the prayer garden fountain gurgles a welcome to come, sit, and bask in the beauty of God's creation.   We appreciate the community's recognition of our beautiful and holy setting!

Art & Soul: Image, Music, & Word #

Lent invites us into a season of contemplation.  Our contemplative time with God is greatly enriched by visual art, music, and poetry.   Holy Comforter will explore these venues in our three part Lenten Soup & Bread series, Art & Soul from 5:30 - 7 p.m. each Sunday.  

On Sunday, March 8 we welcome The Rev. Mary Green, hospital chaplain and gifted iconographer.  She will teach us about iconograpy as a worshipful art. On Sunday March 15, we welcome Brother Michael Gallagher, Benedictine monk and gifted musician.  He will engage us in worship through music.  Lastly, on Sunday March 22, we welcome The Rev. Andrew Parker, rector of St. Timothy's in Lake Jackson, and gifted poet.  He will invite us into the magical and worshipful world of poetry.  We hope you will join us for this enriching Lenten series!

Pancakes, Ashes, & Fish! #

Holy Comforter engages three long time traditions in one week!  On Tuesday, (Fat Tuesday) February 24, from 5-7, we'll enjoy our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper in the parish hall.  The following day is Ash Wednesday.  We will have a Noon and a 7 p.m. service of Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist.   On Friday, Februay 27, we'll renew an old Holy Comforter tradition: Lenten Friday Fish Frys. From 5- 7 p.m.every Friday in Lent, the men of Holy Comforter will fry up fish dinners to eat in or take out.  Yum!

The Gathered Community #

On February 13-14, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas will gather in Houston for the annual Diocesan Council meeting.  (For details, visit the Diocesan website:  Every church in the diocese will be represented here!  Its a wonderful occasion to remember that Holy Comforter is part of a bigger whole, a community of over 160 parishes and missions bringing the love of Christ into this corner of the world. At council we worship, we share Eucharist, and we make decisions for the future of the Diocese.  Holy Comforter's delegation includes: Lola Kay and Don Hood, Barbara Marin, Billye Carroll, Ed White, Mike Hattaway, and Mother Carol.  We ask your prayers for this gathering!

Souper Bowl Sunday! #

Everybody wins on Souper Bowl Sunday, February 1!   Bring your favorite soup, bread, or dessert for Holy Comforter's Annual Souper Bowl Lunch, along with canned soup for the food pantry, and a cash donation for the Rector's Discretionary Fund.  The needy of our community will be the winners...and so will we!  Touchdown!

Annual Meeting and Celebration! #

Lessons & Carols #

Join us Sunday, December 28 at 10:30 a.m. (one service only) for a Service of Lessons and Carols!  Now that the hustle-bustle is past, we'll hear and celebrate the story of God's work through the ages, via readings of scripture interspersed with carols of joy.  Come as you are for this informal service and Holy Eucharist.

Christmas Eve! O Holy Night.... #

Experience the holiness of Christmas at one of Holy Comforter's Christmas Eve services!  Enjoy the children's pageant, followed by Eucharist at the 5:30 p.m. Family Service.  "Midnight Mass" with string quartet is at 10:30 p.m.; the musical prelude begins at 10:15.  

Welcome the Christ Child with us on Christmas morning as we enjoy a very informal worship of Christmas carols and Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a..m.
